  • You directly or your authorized representative when you apply for insurance or request access to one of our services.
  • Third party suppliers we work with such as your insurance broker.
  • Third parties you have allowed to share information with us.
  • Health care providers such as clinics, hospitals or medical providers that are not affiliated with us to ensure we provide the best service and care to you.

Why and when do we collect your personal information?

We collect your personal information when you apply for insurance or get a quote. We only collect the necessary personal information for the service or product you are inquiring about.

We collect it to ensure we provide you with the coverage that is right for you and provide you with the best service possible as well as informing you of other products and services offered by TuGo and its affiliates. If you need to make a claim, we may need to collect additional medical information to help process the claim and to provide the best possible assistance and care. The information is used only as needed, by authorized personnel only and is maintained securely for the period required by law.

TuGo keeps personal information about you to help us meet your current and future insurance and travel related needs. This allows us to recommend the best products and services for you. With your permission, we advise you of products and services that may meet your needs. To best serve you, TuGo and its affiliates may also reach out to you periodically to conduct surveys.

The information we collect may vary depending on the products you inquire about and services you access.

We will not disclose or share your Personal Information with others unless we are authorized to do so by Law or you have expressly given us consent to do so.

How do we obtain your consent?

We will inform you why we need to collect your personal information before obtaining your consent. Your content may be implied by contacting us and purchasing a policy or it may be explicitly collected by us. TuGo will always ask for additional consent from you for a purpose not initially identified to you. We only collect the personal information that is necessary.

TuGo will not share your personal information other than for the purposes for which it was collected as set out in this policy, unless you authorize us to do so. We may share your personal information with:

  • Authorized employees of TuGo and its affiliated companies who require the information in the fulfillment of their duties
  • Third party partners such as your insurance broker and their authorized employees
  • Medical providers
  • Travel providers
  • Financial institutions
  • Any person you have legally authorized to view your personal information

We may also disclose your personal information to other entities such as government or law enforcement agencies as authorized by law.

How do we protect your information?

The privacy and security of your personal information is our highest priority. We have strict privacy and security measures in place to safeguard your personal information and prevent unauthorized access. TuGo employees are trained to be diligent about safeguarding personal information. Your personal information is held in a secured area, whether on site or off site, and can only be accessed by authorized personnel. We only share your personal information with third parties as needed and authorized by law. Any transfer of information is done through secured channels.

Your personal information may be transferred outside your home province and/or Canada. Some of TuGo’s third party suppliers such as data hosting service providers may be located outside of your home province or Canada. For Quebec residents, this means that your personal information may leave Quebec and may be subject to the laws of those jurisdictions.

We take all necessary steps to ensure that our affiliates and third-party suppliers comply with all applicable laws and maintain rigorous safeguards to protect your personal information whenever it is stored or used.

Your Online Privacy

You should also be aware that when you visit our websites, we collect certain usage data, such as the number of visitors we receive or what pages are visited most often. This data helps us to understand and improve the usefulness of the information of our services.

Data may be subject to the applicable local laws of that jurisdiction and may be accessible to the law enforcement and national security authorities of that jurisdiction. Hosting services and data provided through or stored on the website may be located in servers and data storage centres outside of British Columbia and/or Canada and may be subject to the applicable local laws of the jurisdiction where the storage centres are located.  By using the website, you consent to us retaining such third-party service providers to host the website or certain portions (including on the cloud), and to transfer, process and store data in Canada or any other jurisdiction in which we or our third-party service providers maintain facilities.

Accessing your personal information

You can request a copy of the personal information TuGo holds about you by making a written request at the address below. A charge may apply for this service. If upon receipt of your personal information file, you believe the information we hold about you is inaccurate, you have the right to request an update or correction.

Retention of your personal information

TuGo will retain your personal information as long as it is necessary to achieve the purposes for which it was collected and to also meet its legal and contractual requirements. Your personal information will automatically be deleted once the purposes for which it was collected has been achieved.
